Summer is just around the corner! Wednesday, March 30, 2016
Our wonderful state has a lot to offer its' residents. We have fall colors that attract thousands from all over the country, feet...and feet of snow to entertain all of the winter warriors. We even have a brief three to four month spring. Best of all though might be the summer! Michigan summers conjure up thoughts of baseball games, camping at one of the Michigan State Parks, or just sitting around your backyard with friends around a crackling bonfire. March is ending, and spring is nipping at its' heals. Soon enough the weather will turn warm enough to spend days and nights outside with family. Kids are becoming more restless as the days get longer. Almost like a sixth sense they know that the longer it stays light outside, the shorter the school year is.
You all know what that means. Vacation! Family vacation to be exact. There are plenty of destinations around our country that fit the bill when it comes to entertaining the family, and parents alike. Plenty of theme parks, and aquariums, and fancy dining to satisfy everybody. But have you thought about staying in Michigan? Have you thought about camping in the great outdoors? Have you thought about all the conversations you can have with your kids, your husband or wife around a campfire roasting marshmallows on a quiet crisp Michigan summer night. These are the moments that you will remember, these are the moments that bring families closer together. Fishing as a family in some of the best freshwater lakes and streams on Gods' green earth. Michigan has it all. One of my fondest memories as a father was spending time with my wife and kids at Presque Isle State Park in Marquette. I know what you are all thinking, that is so far away, if I am going to drive hundreds of miles away I want a cozy hotel and to see the look on my kids faces when they see the giant mouse and other characters from the movies they watch. I can tell you personally that although those places are fun, the look on my children's faces when they climbed the rocks, looked out over Lake Superior and smiled it was different. Maybe it was just me over thinking, but I have seen what Michigan has to offer and my kids choose, that's right, they choose every summer to spend our vacation. Our only two week un-interrupted time together, together. They want to explore, see waterfalls, camp and hike. They don't have to worry about anything else other than being a kid. That is what Michigan summer means to me. Get out and explore, this state has a ton of surprises. Feel free to let me know your favorite Michigan destination and why.
